Talentime(2009)

talentime

Dear Yasmin Ahmad,

I just want to say thank you, for making such a beautiful masterpiece. It’s a love story, a beautiful one embedded in the depths of a multi-cultured society, in which I can easily identify with. You have compiled a great crew to make this movie, a “local” movie with an international standard.  I see the love between couples, family members, and friends. I cannot possibly not feel somewhat connected with the characters in this movie, which is by the way played by an amazing cast, both new talents and seasoned familiar faces. A storyline which sucked me into hurdles of emotions. To those who say your movies are controversial, they are just being ignorant of the truth. The truth that you bring about our country some may not understand because it is from different viewpoints, but it  is the truth. Talentime really brings that particular nostalgic feeling, high school could have never been portrayed so perfectly. And the soundtrack, its purely inspirational, it’s genuine mixture of local talents proves to everyone that Malaysia can make it with the big boys. So please do produce the official soundtrack, it will without a doubt be the best local movie soundtrack ever.  So thank you, for placing a chance to appreciate and love our country in our hearts, thank you for giving us a chance to admire such great talents, thank you for making your movies just the way they are, unique at heart, and thank you for 117 blissful minutes of Talentime.

Your faithful fan,

Levi Asher

Keanu Can’t Save the World.

10 12 2008

[edited]

I watched two movies today, you know, to like mark the beginning of my Holiday.

Twilight and The Day the earth stood still. Let’s talk about the latter, not only because it was a free sneak preview, but, also because I wanna leave Twilight to the girls, I can’t scream in high-pitch to summarize the movie. =p

daytheearthstoodstillposter

Keanu Reeves. One like me can’t help but let out a sigh at the sight of his name on yet another ”supernatural invasion+him trying to save the world” movie poster. It’s disaster at hand.

We all  saw him in Constantine, and we know how he failed ever so badly.

The movie started out fine, they tried their best to make it scientifically logical as possible. Then halfway it starts to head downhill. Like really corny, and predictable. And what’s with the Iron Man big bro, who eventually turns into crazy eating dust monster and demolish earth. pfft.

You notice how nowadays, Hollywood’s making the U.S military seem like ass-es. Literally. Almost every movie nowadays that comes out will mock the very existence of the U.S military defense.

I forgot to say this, I personally feel that Al Gore is behind the movie, I mean it’s not hard to see why. His movie ” An Inconvinient Truth” got mixed reviews, so he needed a new plan. Secretly, he asked Keanu Reeves to be an alien and come all the way from a million light years and us Humans that Global Warming has gotten out of hand and quote,” If the Earth dies, you die. If you die, the Earth survives.” See, see. It’s obvious, well done Al Gore.

55 years they came up with the original, pretty much the same plot. Since then our condition has gotten worse. What difference will it make now?

I have nothing much to say, the movie left my jaw standing still. in a bad way.

Please Keanu Reeves, you may be able to save people from Bombs and Buses, but planet earth. Don’t get over yourself. =p

To sum it up, I would rather pay to watch Twilight a second time then this movie. So don’t bother paying at all, just kindly attain a copy of it from a certain wonderfully created sharing technology online. *wink. Period.

p/s: I don’t get why girls are crazy over that Twilight Vamp dude. He’s “beautiful” O_o

Traitor(2008)

This is amazing.

I mean no wonder Don Cheadle got the Iron Man 2 part.

The way he brought out his character Samir Horn in this movie was outstanding. He purposely learnt Arabic for the movie and when he spoke you couldn’t tell the difference, perfect.

Well really, this isn’t just another terrorist movie full with bombings that show how American’s are weak. But it goes beyond that, to where the planning and schemes and emotions that runs through the minds of Jihads.

A movie where it’s up to the audience that gauge whether the role Don Cheadle plays is heroic or terrorism.

It’s very enlighting. If it does come out in the cinemas you people should watch it. It’s movie like this that should make the Box Office and not Daniel Craig’s. pft.

Loaded(2008)

2 11 2008

Watched this movie recently, loved it. Simple, direct, truthful. A story which revolves around the live of a young man with a bright future, Tristan Price(played by Jesse Metcalfe). Tristan, in his final year as a law student, everything going well, a career, wonderful family, awesome girlfriend. Tristan has a past, drugs. During his college days. But he left that all back in college, til one day, he meets an old friend, currently a revengeful drug dealer who at first as usual makes him feel comfortable. Luring him back on to that life, Cars, Drugs, Money, Girls, Guns. Soon Tristan watched his life spinning out of control going down the drain. Everything within a blink of an eye, poof.

It’s reality, I’ve seen and known of many who have lost it all to drugs. That is why, even though there has been many lines and boundaries I have crossed throughout my life. There’s one I’ll never cross. Drugs. I’ve seen it kill and destroy too many. You might be surprised but many among us even here in Malaysia are caught up in the drug universe, stuck, unable to escape its grasp, and many are the ones you’d never expect, the smart, the goodie-two-shoes. It’s really sad when you see someone lose a life to drugs. It’s really not worth it.

So yea, DONT DO DRUGS! =)

p/s: Chace Crawford is in the movie btw.

August Rush(2007)

16 04 2008

One of the best Musical based movies since Walk the Line or The Pianist.

The story of a young musical prodigy Evan Taylor(Freddie Highmore), who was sent off to a home since birth, yet still being able to ‘hear’ his parents through the music in his head.

When he reached 11 he runs away in search of his birth parents, and ends up in New York, where his adventure begins.

Big names in the movie are; Jonathan Rhys Meyers(Mission Impossible 3), Keri Russell(Felicity), Terrence Howard(Awake), and Robin Williams.

Trailer:

Amazing movie, will not fail to bring tears to your eyes. If your a real movie lover, and your into masterpieces, this is one you shouldn’t miss. Even with such a short soundtrack they’ve managed to pull it off and create such touching story.

Sadly it won’t be coming out in the cinemas. If this were to be shown in THX, it would certainly be orgasmic!

It should be out on DVD now!

And after watching it get the soundtrack!! It’s awesome! Classical rocks!

My fav. song from the movie:- This Time (Jonathan Rhys Meyers)

Tonight the sky above
Reminds me how to love
Walking through wintertime, the stars all shine
The angel on the stairs
Will tell you I was there
Under the front porch light
On the mistery night

I’ve been sitting, watching life pass from the sidelines
Been waiting for a dream to seep in through my blinds
I wondered what might happen if I left this all behind
Would the wind be at my back
Could I get you off my mind
This time

The neon lights and bars
And headlights from the cars
Started a symphony surrounding me
The things I left behind
Have melted in my mind
And now there’s a purity inside of me

I’ve been sitting, watching life pass from the sidelines
Been waiting for a dream to seep in through my blinds
I wondered what might happen if I left this all behind
Would the wind be at my back
Could I get you off my mind
This time

I’ve been sitting, watching life pass from the sidelines
Been waiting for a dream to seep in through my blinds
I wondered what might happen if I left this all behind
Would the wind be at my back
Could I get you off my mind
This time

Awake(2007)

4 04 2008

awake.jpg

Awake, Psychological thriller which started of intriguing audience into it’s massive suspence build up in this 84 min movie for the first time Director; Joby Harold

It was all good till the truth was revealed and I was stunned, from then on it was bad, every minute getting worse, predictable.

Then it ended. Abruptly.

The movie to me was as if a fat lady finished singing in the middle of the chorus.

Not worth the watch, for medical personnels especially, it will annoy you to death throughout the movie with their incompetent surgical procedures and methods.

Don’t bother watching.

Maybe just the first part where Jessica Alba *ahem-ed* Hayden Christensen .XD

What you should watch though are;-

Well that’s about the latest I’ve watched, this week.=D

Another five more coming next week, plus the new ones in the Cinemas. weeeeeeeeee..

Happy Happy Man.

The Great Debaters[movie]

25 02 2008

 great-debaters.jpg

“Who is the judge?
The judge is God.
Why is he God?
Because he decides who wins or loses. Not my opponent.
Who is your opponent?
He does not exist.
Why does he not exist?
Because he is a mere dissenting voice of the truth I speak!”

As so the title proclaims “Great”, so is the movie indeed. Above is one of the many astounding statements that splurges out of the screen during the movie.

More of a racial integration movie than a debate one set in the 1930s.

Actors Forest Whitaker, and Denzel Washington, African-American heroes in real life itself. Made this one a not to be missed.

For you aspiring debaters,  ex-debaters, those who have a voice and speak nothing but the truth, watch this. No it will not come out in the theaters, because our country is too afraid of movies that inspire some young ones that will fight for the truth. Something that we have not seen for the past decade or century.

We have been brainwashed by fear itself. That no woman have the freedom of independence to muster up enough courage to walk out on the streets alone. We have been taught to take precautions and not to capture. How do we deal with crime? Isn’t it supposed to be locking up the guilty, and not taking precautions to reduce crime rates?

Our country indeed is a racist one. Even though many refuse admit likewise.

People know and even talk about areas that are labeled unofficially owned by a certain race.

The way people talk nowadays scares the shit out of me. The way things have changed.

This election, is gonna mark a change.

But it ain’t gonna be good, if people don’t start educating the younger generation properly.

The younger generation that no longer respect the elderly at such an adolescent age. What will become of them when grow up with minds that have no basic wisdom to determine from right and wrong.

Why is it that our government still segregates voters according to different races?

The word is out. Parents want their kids to leave the country and never come back. They want their kids to find a job in a foreign country so that they can bring them over. How selfish is that. Parents like these should be ashame of themselves.

Losing hope in our government. If I could vote, I would do my part, it would definitely do a even though small but significant change. As much as I hate the lifestyle here. I would never leave the country, the state maybe, but not the country.

This country has raised me to become a fine young man. Despite the fact education will draw me to different countries, my heart will be here, and I will definitely return to raise my family  here. And also to die in the land I was raised up on.
